Theme Month! September 2026: Playing Doctor

This month, we are going to be looking at silent movies with a medical theme. Doctors, nurses, home remedies, quacks, shrinks and hypochondriacs were all popular topics of the era.

In order to get us ready for the fun, here are some movies I have already covered on the subject:

Bebe Daniels and Reginald Denny played hypochondriacs who overcome their condition and find love in Feel My Pulse and Oh Doctor! respectively. Both great fun too.

There’s bad medicine performed on Conrad Veidt twice! Once in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and again in The Hands of Orlac. Can a German guy catch a break?

For more realistic medical drama, Falling Leaves concerns a younger sister’s attempt to save her dying sibling and The Italian deals with the very real dangers of unpasteurized milk, while Where Are My Children portrays the dangers of illicit abortions.

I hope you will enjoy this month’s selections!
