Would-be opera singer Corinne Griffith accidentally gets a job in a girly show. Rescued by seamstress Louise Dresser, the pair escape to Monte Carlo. Passing herself off as Louise’s aristocratic daughter, Corinne falls for rich boy Charles Ray. But how long can Louise and Corinne keep up the act?
Bubbly, zany and thoroughly Jazz Age, this romantic comedy is a wacky blast of fun with supporting players like Dresser, Lowell Sherman and Maude George stealing the show. Don’s miss this proto-screwball.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.
Griffith’s deception is exposed at her wedding and she stomps off (doffing her wedding dress as she goes) but Ray chases after her and they get married anyway.Read my full-length review here.
If it were a dessert it would be: Mini Eclairs with Meyer Lemon Filling. Pluck! Zip! Zest! And just as cute as can be.
Availability: Released on Bluray by Flicker Alley.

It’s a film that I already love, Corinne Griffith being a particular favorite of mine … but now I’m dying to try those mini-eclairs with Meyer lemon filling!
😀
I was first introduced to this wonderful comedy–one of the finest of the silent era or of any era come to it–by TCM a long time ago & enjoyed my tape of the broadcast for many years. When I switched over to disc I made the mistake of buying an “economy” dvd. This was a dim print with a worse than usual piano score–a case of false economy if there ever was one. The Flicker Alley disc, with the typically superb Robert Israel, is the one to get for sure.
I might mention that Corinne Griffith shows her versatility in a more serious role in “The Divine Lady,” available in the Archive Collection with the exciting original music score.
You’ll definitely find the Flicker Alley Bluray an upgrade. Beautiful to look at and that excellent score.
This looks like a charming film! I can’t wait to watch or sometime! Thanks for the post!
Enjoy!
