I try not to get into too much detail but my health took a bit of a nosedive in early Autumn. One of the unfortunate side effects of this was falling behind on my unboxings. I have a nice little stack to share, so let’s get going! We’re starting with Kino Lorber.

Filibus
As a devotee of 1910s crime cinema, I have been coveting Filibus enormously! It’s an Italian crime picture with airships and robberies and a female villain, what else could we wish for? Well, a score by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra helps, too.
This just covers the home media release but I am planning to review this film very soon, so watch this space!
The Indian Tomb
If you know anything about me, you know that I love The Indian Tomb. It’s long, it’s slow, it’s gorgeous and it has Conrad Veidt. It hits all my Weimar happy places. I was delighted to see that a new restoration was released in Germany, which included footage not found in the previous DVD. Well, it has come to North America! Not a huge fan of the ambient score– it’s a bit much for 3+ hours– but the restoration makes me swoon.
And a bonus talkie…
If you want to see a talking Erich von Stroheim, The Great Gabbo is also available.
Thanks so much for your patience. More coverage of new releases from the second half of 2021-to-present coming soon!

I’m looking forward to your review of Filibus – I’m intrigued by it, haven’t seen it, and its reputation is, putting it mildly, mixed. It’s clearly in the serial thriller mould made popular (at least to me) by Feuillade’s big three – Fantomas, Les Vampires and Judex. If it leans towards the Judex end of the pendulum I’m in. If it’s as just plain bonkers as the Fantomas series became, I’m still in, but, if it’s closer to Les Vampires…well there’s probably something else I could be watching….the Indian Tomb perhaps….:)
Also try another pulpy Italian production from the 1910s: The Jockey of Death! Hits all the trash cinema sweet spots.
I saw Fiibus at the AFI and loved it! I can’t wait to see The Indian Tomb.
