It’s time for the annual call for reader suggestions! Every year, I like to dedicate a month to reviewing movies suggested to me by other silent movie fans, new and experienced, and this is your opportunity to request.
I will take four or five of the suggestions and write a review for each of the films. Any silent film or part-talkie (including ones made after the silent era ended) is up for consideration and I would also love any requests for films with a silent film setting.
You can look at my index (not fully updated, alas) to see if your film has already been reviewed. Also, feel free to second any requests that cover films you already requested. There’s no limit on the number of requests, this is very much brainstorming and you can request one or many movies.
I always enjoy this because I can’t watch everything and every year, you come up with movies that weren’t on my radar. I love all the inspiration and thank you in advance!

The Aerial (2007)
Thank you!
Le manoir de la peur // The Manor House of Fear (1927)
Thanks!
L’Inferno/Dante’s Inferno (1911)
Thank you!
I second “Dante’s Inferno.” (I have heard that some of its footage was used for the dream sequence in the 1935 Spencer Tracy movie, so maybe you could do one of your silent vs. talkie posts).
I’d also love to see you review some more German horror– maybe The Student of Prague or The Golem.
Thanks!
To clarify what I wrote on 8/24 at 4:38 am:
1. I have read conflicting reports on whether the 1935 Dante’s Inferno used footage from the silent.
2. The Student of Prague was actually made 3 times: 1913 (the only one I saw), 1926 and a 1935 talkie.
I’d love to see your thoughts on:
The Water Magician (1933, Kenji Mizoguchi)
A Page of Madness (1926, Teinosuke Kinugasa)
Limite (1931, Mário Peixoto)
Thanks! And here is my link to Limite:

Thanks! I’ve been in two minds about watching this, but your review has sold me.
“Before starting this review, I think I should remind you of something: I am a philistine. Self-consciously arty films are absolutely not my thing; they remind me too much of THAT guy in college. […] Yes, reader, I liked it. Actually, I loved it.”
Street Angel – I’m a big Borzage fan !
Thank you!
I would love to see a review on The Passion of Joan of Arc!
Thank you!
One film I like to mentally chew on is The Phantom Carriage (1921).
Thank you!

L’inhumaine (1924)
Thank you!
I’d love to get your thoughts on Man-Woman-Marriage (1921), mainly because Robert E. Sherwood branded it “the world’s worst movie” during his first year on the film beat at the original Life Magazine, and I’m open to a second opinion. 🙂
Thanks! I took a gander at the cast and crew and…. directed by Allen Holubar and starring Dorothy Phillips. Yeah, given my track record with them, I think Sherwood was probably right!
How about a double review of Valdemar Psilander-vehicle The Clown (1917) and the 1926 remake, The Golden Clown, so we can get your take on whether Psilander – in his last film – was such a great actor compared to Gösta Ekman. Both films freely online at Danish Silent Film:

Thank you!
I’d love to read a review of the Danish silent comedy ‘The Friend from Springfield’ (1927). A new discovery for me with some inventive visuals.
Thank you!
