Theme Month! September 2024: Weird Tales

Welcome back! The theme for September will be Weird Tales in the classic pulp sense. That is, tales of the strange, dark and bizarre.

The silent era loved its weird tales, with major classics like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari reveling it the mood. The weirdness could be comedic, as was the case of horror comedies like The Maniac Barber or The Cat and the Canary. It could also be deadly serious, like the macabre human taxidermy antics of Behind the Door. It could be surreal, as were both 1928 adaptations of Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher.

All month, I will be reviewing tales of the strange from various countries and decades of the silent era. Enjoy!
