Giveaway: Kino Lorber Blurays

I haven’t hosted a giveaway in ages but Kino Lorber was kind enough to provide some quality silent films on disc. I have quite a few to hand out, so I have split the giveaway into multiple parts. More chances to win is always a good thing, right?

Here are the discs in this round:

The Epic of Everest: real footage of the tragic Mallory attempt to summit the peak.

Sherlock Holmes: The John Barrymore version featuring a very early appearance by William Powell!

Peter Pan: The beloved classic with authorial approval and stunning visuals and an exciting cast.

Here’s how you enter:

  1. Leave a comment saying why you want to win these movies. Please state the titles you want or just say you want them all.
  2. I will draw randomly for each disc on November 19, 2022 and contact you if you have won.
  3. If the winner does not claim their prize in one week, I will draw a runner-up.

This drawing is open for U.S. addresses only. Void where prohibited. All discs will ship via USPS.

I think that’s everything! Thank you, Kino Lorber, for sponsoring the fun!

I’m interested inn any/all DVDs since I teach film history courses at our community college, and in this era of shrinking resources, I often buy things with my own money.

I would find a way to use any that were sent my way.

    Cheers!

The Epic of Everest would be my first choice but I’d be happy with either the Sherlock Holmes or the enchanting Peter Pan – Betty Bronson is awesome!

  3. Vaughn Banks

I want them all! Barrymore was one of the greatest actors of all time, a perfect fit for the role of Sherlock Holmes. A version of Peter Pan approved by the author sounds delightful. The movie about Mallory is something I never heard of before.

  4. Howard Carter

Oh!! I love both the Holmes and he Peter Pan films, and don’t have a copy of Pan, so that would be wonderful to be able to watch it again.

And since eim always looking for new silents, the Everest film looks fascinating

I would love those Blu Rays!! All of them if possible but mostly Peter Pan!!! I love that story in any version!!!  I am a huge Silent Film fan…..and saw this version of Peter Pan in a vintage theater near me with live music and actress Linsdays Crouse reading the titles!!! It was magnificent!!!  Thank you,Patrick Quigley

I hope I’m posting this time, and not accidentally replying. My phone scrolls too fast sometimes, and I hit the wrong links….

Anyway, if would be awesome to win any of these films, but the Everest one draws me. That whole expedition fascinates me.

The Epic of Everest is really a great film. I have seen all three and was most interested in Everest. I am not sure all folks like the adventure films, but if you have not seen this one, it’s a great first one to try and see if you like the genera. Peter Pan is an interesting film, too. My last choice is the Sherlock Holmes film. If I received a copy of Everest, I’d share it with my sister and brother. I told them how interesting this film was.

I would like The Epic of Everest because I’ve never seen a silent documentary, and one following an expedition to a faraway place especially excites me.

  9. Carla

Sherlock Holmes would be the one I’d want. I grew up on various Sherlock Holmes versions, and I have never seen this one! It would be something very fun and make my inner child happy.

  10. Jess

I would love to win any of them (perhaps mostly Peter Pan or Sherlock Holmes) but I just love silent film and always love expanding my collection!

  11. Andrew

Most of my silent movie knowledge is the classic horror/Lon Chaney stuff. So, I’d be interested in all of then to expand that knowledge.

  12. Chris Edwards

I want to say some special, long winded reason why you should pick me to receive one of these, but the honest to God truth is I just want one because I love silent films but for the most part my only real access to them is what TCM airs on a Sunday. I’m a big Sherlock fan, I love the books, the Rathbone movies and I’ve even listened to the radio adaptations he worked on. I’ve never seen this version and I would like to. Like I said I love Sherlock and I also love Barrymore, but I’ve somehow never seen that movie. So pick me, please, so I can watch it.

I’d love the Barrymore Holmes, don’t believe I’ve seen that in decades. But my wife loves Everest and Tenzing Norgay so that’s a second choice. Thanks for doing this!

  14. Griffin

I’d love to see any of these movies! My wife and I have been watching a lot of silent and pre-Code movies recently. I’m always looking for more silent films to watch with her.

  15. James Mitchell

I’m interested in the Peter Pan movie most. We found out our library system had it; we placed a hold on it; two years later, it still hasn’t arrived, and it has strangely disappeared from the library archives…
