Fun Size Review: Monte Cristo (1922)

Note to villains: If you want get the hero out of the way by framing him, just make sure he doesn’t get the cell next to the old guy who knows where to find a fabulous treasure. Cuz, you know, he may come back for revenge.

It has a pre-Great Lover John Gilbert and Estelle Taylor as his one true love. It is a little rushed but overall a pretty dern good adaptation and Gilbert seemed to enjoy brooding and wearing powdered wigs, which are essential skills for a role of this kind.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.
This version departs from the book in that the protagonist gets his revenge and then is able to reunite with the love of his youth.

Read my full-length review here.

If it were a dessert it would be: Butterscotch Banana Muffins. A little bit of added flavor but generally stays close to the classic.

Availability: Released on DVD by Flicker Alley.

Thank you for revisiting this film I am a huge John Gilbert fan. I also own this Flicker Alley set which is sadly going out of print. Hopefully they will have it available as MOD at some point.
