Fun Size Review: Lady Godiva (1911)

A by-the-numbers nickelodeon era adaptation of the world’s most famous au naturel ride. This Vitagraph picture is mostly notable for its rather enthusiastic cast, including a truly lascivious Peeping Tom.

While it’s not the most daring version of this tale– the ride is accomplished via nude-colored body stocking– it was a critical and commercial success and so it represents the kind of movie audiences of the time wanted to see.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

Peeping Tom goes blind and Godiva makes her point.

If it were a dessert it would be: Princess Cookies. Not an authentic medieval recipe but worth your time.

Availability: Available for solo rental or purchase from Harpodeon. It’s also included as an extra on Grapevine’s release of Salambo.
