Fun Size Review: A Pair of Silk Stockings (1918)

Constance Talmadge and Harrison Ford (not that one) play a battling married couple who finally call it quits when he tries to make her jealous and she ends up divorcing him for infidelity. Meanwhile, the garment of the title is worn, used to tie up a burglar, lost and worn again.

As bedroom farces go, this is a pretty good one. The characters drive the plot rather than the plot dragging the characters into improbable situations. It’s silly and broad but it is a farce and so that is exactly what it is supposed to be. Talmadge and Ford are cute and the former resists the urge to mug, for the most part. All in all, this is one of the best Constance Talmadge comedies and an unpretentious, saucy bit of entertainment.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

Constance discovers that Harrison was the “burglar” she tied up with her stockings when he shows up wearing them. Reconciliation ensues.

If it were a dessert it would be: Black Cardamom and Black Pepper Ice Cream. A classic with a kick.
