Fun Size Review: Under Royal Patronage (1914)

100 years ago, if you wanted to see a movie from a box office powerhouse team, you would watch a film with Francis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne. Under Royal Patronage is a Ruritanian romance designed to showcase their chemistry and It Screen Couple status.

The film is pretty predictable and Bayne is immediately overshadowed by the appealingly hammy Bushman but it is a chance to see these screen legends in their prime. (To my knowledge, it is the ONLY Bushman-Bayne romance from their Essanay days available to the general public. Do let me know if you hear of more.)

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

Those crazy kids get together, whodathunkit?

If it were a dessert it would be: Strawberry and Cream Wafers. Pretty but a bit prefab.

Availability: The only home media release of Under Royal Patronage is from Alpha so don’t expect much in the way of image quality.
