Fun Size Review: Sawdust and Salome (1914)

Scandal! The heir to a fortune has married a bareback circus rider (Norma Talmadge) and his family is just having kittens about it! Doesn’t he realize that his bride has (whisper) worn tights?

Talmadge is fine as the Good Bad Girl heroine but the story is a bit too ham-fisted to be taken seriously. However, it is only a little over ten minutes long and the title cards are quite diverting.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

After witnessing a socially acceptable belly dance performed by a debutante, Talmadge realizes that “decent” families are hypocrites, her husband included, and decides to return to the clean sawdust of the circus.

If it were a dessert it would be: Red Velvet Funnel Cake. Not bad but trying a little too hard.

Availability: Released on DVD.
