Fun Size Review: Onésime, You’ll Get Married… or Else (1913)

Another entry in the anarchic Onésime series directed by Jean Durand and starring Ernest Bourbon. This time, our hero is attempting to wed by means of a marriage lottery and absolutely everything goes wrong, up to and including losing out on the one woman he really wants to marry.

It’s not the most bonkers Onésime short but there’s plenty to love, especially the climactic escape on a penny-farthing bicycle. What more could we want?

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

There was an error in the lottery numbers and Onésime wins the hand of the woman he fancies.

If it were a dessert it would be: Paris-Brest. This wheel-shaped cake is also quite tasty.

Availability: Released, along with a generous selection of other Jean Durand films, on DVD as part of the Gaumont Treasures Volume Two box set released by Kino Lorber.
