Fun Size Review: The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926)

Pioneering animator Lotte Reiniger creates an elaborate shadow world based on the Arabian Nights; a sort of “best of” tour through the collection.

The story is told using silhouette animation, most of it done by Reiniger herself in a small home studio. One of the most breathtakingly beautiful films of the silent era and an epic testament to Reiniger’s vision and talent. An absolute must-see.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

Our hero saves his love, his kingdom, his family and generally gets the fairy tale ending we expect but getting there is all the fun.

If it were a dessert it would be: Oatmeal Lace Cookies. Delicate, yet homespun.

Availability: Released on DVD and Bluray.
