Do you like detective stories? Do you like quirky comedy? Do you like really, really, really quirky comedy? Then this is the movie for you!
It’s all about a detective called Z (Ivan Mosjoukine) who is hired to return a wife’s affections to her husband. Chaos ensues because every single character in the film is 100% nuts. This forgotten comedy charms the socks off everyone who sees it, even viewers who don’t normally cotton to foreign fare.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.
The wife falls for Z (who wouldn’t) and the husband, realizing the situation is hopeless, leaves the country.
If it were a dessert it would be:
Fried Ice Cream. Decadent, counter-intuitive and addictive.
Availability: The Burning Crucible is available on DVD as part of the Russian Emigres in Paris box set. This is a must-buy for silent film fans.
