A charming bit of early sci-fi from René Clair. A small group of people in Paris discover they are the only moving things in a world that has suddenly frozen in place. They respond by looting but are soon bored with material goods.
This film feels a bit rough and drags at stretches but it is generally an imaginative and enjoyable effort. (Just don’t ask me to track down the actual original release date.)
How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.
They discover the scientist who cause all the trouble and restart the world. Realizing an opportunity, try their looting again but it doesn’t work out so well the second time.
If it were a dessert it would be: Grapefruit Pomegranate Champagne Sorbet. It’s a pretty summer trifle.
