Deliciously over-the-top, slightly goofy, always fun… Who among us hasn’t wanted to say, “Kiss me, My Fool!” at least once? The funny thing is, people say the line without even realizing that they are quoting a silent movie.
Theda Bara was not actually the first movie vamp but she remains the most famous. This picture, her first vampire melodrama, is rough around the edges but it does give us a taste of her quirky charisma.
The movie vamp took pop culture by storm, thanks to some clever marketing from Fox Studios and some consciously over-the-top acting from overnight sensation Theda Bara. The film is the story of a diplomat who falls into the clutches of a cruel vampire and spends the rest of the film whining about his fate. Mwahahaha! Girls win! Girls win!
