The Final Round of the 1918 Silent Star Tournament!

It’s here! The final round of the 1918 Silent Star Tournament! We started with sixteen stars who were beloved in 1918 and they have slowly been whittled away to just two by 2018 voters. Who will win?

The results are a real nail-biter in the first division. Real life besties Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin were pitted against one another and it was a photo finish!

Douglas Fairbanks 51%
Charlie Chaplin 49%

Things were less close in the William S. Hart v. Mary Pickford battle:

Mary Pickford 73%
William S. Hart 27%

And now, here is the final challenge: you have to choose between Hollywood’s grandest royal couple. Will it be Doug or will it be Mary? Both are legends but there can only be one winner.

If you have trouble seeing the poll, here is a direct link.

Have fun! I will announce the results next week.

  1. Did not see Chaplin being upset. Both Doug and Mary are great, but I’m going to have to go with Mary. If I could suggest if we do another challenge it be 1925, that year had so many great film and stars.

    1. Doug and Charlie were super, super close the whole time. I don’t think there were ever more than two or three votes separating the two throughout the voting. Well done, Doug!

  2. I’m not usually good at picking winners, but I felt all along it would come down to Doug and Mary, with Mary prevailing. Doug is wonderful, but Mary is a more dominant presence in silents, with a wider range, I think.
