Fun Size Review: Aelita Queen of Mars (1924)

This groundbreaking work of science fiction is… not really science fiction. It has sequences on Mars and iconic alien designs but most of the film is actually about an embezzlement scheme in the Soviet Union.

Thing is, it’s a really good movie about an embezzlement scheme in the Soviet Union. Go in expecting pure sci-fi and you’ll be disappointed but go in knowing that this is a drama with sci-fi sequences and you’ll find plenty to love.

How does it end? Hover or tap below for a spoiler.

The Mars scenes were a dream and the mysterious message from Mars is actually an ad for tires.

If it were a dessert it would be: Cornbread Cake with Mashed Potato Frosting. If you go in expecting one thing, you might be disappointed but keep an open mind.
