The results are in! (Readers choose my 50th celebrity recipe taste test)

I asked my readers to choose which celebrity recipe I will be preparing for my fiftieth Cooking with the (Silent) Stars post. (You can catch up on all my past taste tests here.) Well, the results are in and we have a winner!

(Drumroll, please.)

And the winner is…

Marlene Dietrich!

Dietrich and Ray Milland in “Golden Earrings”

Despite some spirited competition from Olive Thomas and Rudolph Valentino, Dietrich emerged as the winner with 33% of the vote. The complete rankings:

  1. Marlene Dietrich
  2. Olive Thomas
  3. Rudolph Valentino
  4. ZaSu Pitts
  5. Joan Crawford

This is pretty exciting for me as Marlene Dietrich is one of my all-time favorite stars. (I covered her silent career in my review of the kitsch-tastic 1947 vehicle Golden Earrings.)

Dietrich was purported to be a dynamo in the kitchen and star recipe compilations are full of her contributions. I have a TON of choices and will enjoy selecting the featured dish. Thank you so much for reading and voting! I just posted taste test #44, so you should see #50 in the first quarter of the new year.

    1. Yes, I keep running across anecdotes of her prowess in the kitchen. (How much she ate, of course, is open for debate.) She whipped up cakes, soups and entire German meals for Billy Wilder.
